I was just reading up at CNN about how the Teamsters might back Bush if Gephardt doesn't get the nod. Montana unions are thinking about backing a Republican in the Governor's race.
And then I get a letter sent to GOP Team Leader's acknowledging Labor Day. What does it tell the party faithful? Does it tell them to applaud the working men and women who have built this country? The Laborers? The Unions?
No, it tells them to applaud small business owners.
Look I love small business. I'd rather work for small business than big business any day. Bosses are nicer. Pay is typically a little better. The work environment is nicer. I also prefer to shop at small business. Small business is great.
But Labor Day is the day we set aside to recognize the working people who have built this country. Veteran's Day is not a day for police officers or firefighters, regardless of their courage in service to the country. It is for people who fought and often died for America.
Hijacking Labor's Holiday is disrespectful. I won't claim that the Democrats have done all they could to stand up for workers in this country, but they've done a hell-of-a-lot more than the GOP as a whole. And, first and foremost, Democrats, for the most part, respect organized labor, which is more than I can say for most Repubs I know.
Why would you ally with someone who doesn't respect you, much less support your goals?
